Open Source IoT tracker project
I believe that you heard a lot about Internet of things these years as I do. So, I invested few months to investigate myself what is going on, my question is as a non-programmer like me, how far I can go in iOT world. So I designed project by referencing a lot of resources on the web, and I like this project. Instead of keeping it in my hard drive, I would rather open source it, and hope someone would benefit from it.
This is the system map of this tracker project.
Arduino and Phone as trackers
You can expect to learn LoRA, and GPRS communication Arduino code on Linkit One board.
And we have good tracker map APP Owntracks for iPhone and Android phone.
We use MQTT as data communication protocols, and you will find it is very useful in Internet of things world.
Many IoT services and servers implemented
We will learn Docker Cloud service, and build a virtual machine on service provider, such as Azure or Digital Ocean.
We build up our MQTT broker mosquitto, and recorder service, also very powerful workflow application server Node-RED on top of Docker service managed virtual machine.
Then, we can view our locations from Mobile Phone APP owntracks, receive notifications from Slack, and see all history locations from web interface –recorder.
The good thing is that all the software is open source licensed, free of charge, and you just need to pay very little maintenance fee on using virtual machine, and they are on pay-as-you-go based charges, that means you can stop anytime, and charge by using hours.
